Which jobs are in shortage now in Japan?

From April 2019, a new status of residence in Japan called “Specified Skilled Worker (i) & (ii)” (SSW) has officially commenced. 
This is a new system to accept foreign nationals that have a certain level of expertise and skill to begin working immediately in reaction to serious labor shortages in Japanese industries.


What are the “Specified Industry Fields?”


Foreign nationals with considerable knowledge or experience are required in 14 different Specified Industry Fields.
These 14 Specified Industry Fields are considered the most challenging industries in terms of labor shortage due to high rate of aging population with declining birthrate in Japanese society.

The largest numbers in shortage are from 1) Nursing care, 2) Food service industry, 3) Construction industry.
The total number is around 345,000 workers. First, coming from the Nursing care industry which is considered to be one of the most important industries for an aging population society in Japan. Second is the Food service industry which could be also very important for Japan where aiming large economic impact by becoming a Tourism-oriented country.
